Happy Constitution Day!

Referencing the system of government outlined and established in this Constitution, Benjamin Franklin wrote that he was amazed “to find [it] approaching so near to perfection as it does; and I think it will astonish our enemies.”

10 Things Your Teenager Hates

10 Things Your Teenager Hates. Are you guilty of doing any of these things? I sometimes am!

10 Things Your Teenager Hates (Are you making any of these mistakes?) | http://lovinglifeathome.comThere’s no doubt about it.

Navigating life with a teenager at home can be a little tricky.

All those hormones raging through the bloodstream will sometimes have you walking on eggshells.

(Of course, teens might say the same thing about living with a menopausal mother, but that’s another post for another day.)

No parent is perfect. We all make mistakes. And it is sometimes necessary for us to…

Free 2015 Scrapbooking Calendar

Here’s a free printable 2015 calendar to use for scrapbooking or micro-journaling. Enjoy!

I just finished uploading the calendars I’ll use in my children’s scrapbooks next year.

Screen Shot 2014-09-12 at 11.58.25 PM

These are great for micro-journaling. I draw a new set every year, then fill in them in with a short, one- or two-sentence synopsis of what the family did each day.

Then once each month is complete, I make enough color copies for each of my children to have the full set in their scrapbook.

The Bundle Books I’m Reading First

The 2014 Healthy Living BundleAnybody who has followed this blog for long knows that I love to read. I average about a book a week.

Although I like a variety of genres, I especially enjoy books that teach me something new. The more I read, the more I learn. And the more I learn, the more I want to learn.

That’s one reason I’m so excited about the titles included in this year’s Ultimate Healthy Living Bundle.

I used to think…

During our American history studies last year, my children memorized these inspiring words by Thomas Paine. It seemed fitting to republish them here, as we remember the fallen heroes and patriots of 9/11 today.

My New Normal

Help (and Hope) for the easily amused… #MyNewNormal

Eating is a form of entertainment... and I am easily amused. | http://alltruthisgodstruth.com

There was once a time when I could eat whatever I liked and not put on weight.

Those days are long gone.

That’s why I’ve stepped up my exercise program and have been faithfully tracking calories for the past few weeks. Weight loss is a simple matter of calories in vs. calories out.

I’m down four pounds already.

I’ve come to realize that memorizing the diet book won’t make you skinny. You’ve got…

Letter to a Weary Mom

Letter to a Weary Mom — this one encourages me every time I read it.

Letter to a Weary Mom -- http://lovinglifeathome.comDo you hang on to old letters, so you can read them again and again?

I do.

Especially now that handwritten notes have become such a rarity, I enjoy leafing through that stack of saved correspondence, rereading the expressions of love and appreciation and encouragement recorded there, along with a wealth of old news and commentary.

One of my favorite letters in that collection was not actually…

Keeping Track of It All {Free Printable Calendar Page}

Goals for the Week free printable -- a personalized "to do" list from www.flandersfamily.info

Here is a free printable I designed recently to help me keep track of all I need to do each week.

When I print it full size, I can fit a LOT of stuff into those little squares, which helps me remember what has to be done. (If you want to use this style in a smaller day planner, just print two copies per sheet.)

Please note that this isn’t the chart I use for my weekly…
